Video Game Sales: The Juggernaut!
July 3, 2008

Recently the NPD group released their 2007 year end sales numbers. The result? Complete and utter Video Game domination! Video games sold $18.85 billion! The more notable news here is that video games surpassed DVD sales in 2007 which sold $16 billion in 2007. The video game industry has been outselling the Hollywood Box Office for the past few years but this is the first time that DVD sales has fallen to the sheer strength of the Game Industry! In 2007 the Box Office sold $9.6 billion for last year. Now, if you combine both the Box Office numbers and the DVD sales numbers then Movies win. But that’s bullshit! In order to for this to be fair we need to take all the revenue from Movies, based on Video games, pulled out of both the Box Office numbers! YEA! Wait, no. If we did that then we would have to pull the sales of Video Games based on movies out…. Hmmmm…. Either way, this is a great accomplishment for the Video Game industry and Video Game retailers nation wide! Let’s be honest, it’s just a matter of time before game sales surpass both Box Office AND DVD sales.
